While studying computer science at Fitzwilliam College in Cambridge, Gower took on some freelance assignments to generate a suite of games for Games Domain, an earlier provider of free Internet games. "I needed to make an activity for myself that I wasn’t planning to sell to Madden Overdrive Coins somebody else," he says from the film. "I wanted a casino game that could be played on any computer, in places you’d connect on the server and pick up the place you left off. I realised I could create a graphical MUD."
